When you are planning your wedding reception, you need to give careful consideration to whether you would like any music, either playing in the background or as the main entertainment. Music can be a vital aid to help set the tone of your reception, and here are a few basic points you will need to think about.

1. Firstly think about the theme of your wedding. Are you having a very traditional, sit down affair? Instrumental wedding music encompasses any wedding music that is played on instruments, rather than sung. This includes a lot of different instruments and many combinations of instruments. The style of wedding that you are planning will dictate the musical instruments you choose.

Organ - This is the most common instrument used for weddings, especially church weddings. All of the wedding music can be played on nothing but organ, from the prelude to the postlude, and everything in between. A big pipe organ is a wonderful sound, but even small organs can be set for the large pipe organ sound.

Piano - The piano can substitute for the organ, although not nearly so majestic. Flute soloist – A lovely feature at any wedding, from a large church wedding to exchanging vows on the beach. A single flutist can play all of the music for your wedding or the soloist can be featured as prelude music. A vocal solo with flute obligato is very beautiful, also.

Harpist - Another elegant musical soloist, but like the string quartet, quite expensive. Harpists are not easily available, but their music is absolutely heavenly.

Of course, more than one type of instrumental wedding music can be used in your wedding. How about a string quartet for the prelude, a trumpet and organ playing the Trumpet Voluntary for the processional, a flute and singer for a solo during the wedding, and a brass quintet with organ for the recessional?
