Sales rep will try to sell you anything. What do you look for when buying an engagement ring? Also where is a good place to get one with a budget in NYC. Budget is ,000 after taxes. Theres a lot of places in NYC obviously but not sure where to look.
My boyfriend and I are planning on getting married. He hasn’t officially proposed but he told me the other day that he wanted me to choose my own engagement ring so I would choose something that I would love to wear for the rest of my life. I know his budget and everything but I feel that is not okay for me to choose it. I would love to have him surprise me with what he picked out for me but at the same time I would like to choose the perfect ring.
Any ideas?
If you know the properties of diamond and moissanite you would agree that moissanite have more fire and clarity. How would you feel if your boyfriend give you a moissanite engagement ring ? Would you rather be given a 1/4 carat traditional diamond instead of a 2 carat moissanite diamond? What if youre on a budget?
I like the idea of a faceted carnelian ring for my engagement band best, but am wondering whether it’d be more practical to just get a metal band with a carnelian [or perhaps sapphire or emerald] in it.
Any hints/tips? Pros/cons of each? No budget set yet but partner and I are both students right now so cheapish would be best.
Many thanks
I don’t have a lot of money either, so I’m on a budget people!

So many people are under the misconception that they have to hire a wedding planner to have the wedding that they have always dreamed of. Well, as a person that has been involved in the industry for the last 17 years, I totally disagree. There are some very basic Steps for Planning a Wedding and once you understand them, you can plan your own fairy tale event and save time and thousands in the process!
Planning a wedding is really as simple as following a to do list. Yes, that’s right! Get your hands on a good Wedding Timeline and truly the rest will fall into place.
If it’s possible, start planning your wedding at least 12 months ahead of time. This leaves plenty of room to get everything done and without the stress of last minute pressures. If you don’t have 12 months, that’s fine, you will just have to do a little more work and catch up, but it is not as difficult as you may think.
The first step for planning a wedding is to choose a theme. Now of course, this can be as elaborate or as simple as you want it to be. But regardless of which way you want to go, a theme will set the tone and standards for the entire wedding. In other words, do you want a destination wedding? Then you will have to do some research into the area you are planning on getting married at. If you want an outdoor wedding, then you will need to check out locations that can accommodate you, etc.
When you set the theme, this should also include picking colors and agreeing on any extras that you may want, i.e by a pool at a beach, etc.
Once this is done make a list of as many things as you can that will enhance the “theme” and set those aside.
Step 2 is to set a budget. This is imperative. But be warned, this is were many couples get swallowed up by well-meaning relatives with the best intentions. If the two of you are paying for the entire Wedding yourself, then you can sit down together and get this done quickly. However, if like most couples, you have parents and maybe other relatives who have indicated that they would like to contribute financially to your big day, then you will have to meet with them and get accurate amounts. You will also have to explain that there will be certain dates that you will need the funds by and when you get those details, you will immediately pass them on to the appropriate contributor.
The next step is to get a rough idea of how many people will be attending. This will help you narrow down the ceremonial and reception sites.
Once these three Steps for Planning a Wedding are done, you will simply need to get your hands on a good wedding planning timeline. Once you have that information, you will know exactly what to do and when to do it. This will save you tons of time and leave nothing to chance.
Follow these 3 steps and get a good wedding planning timeline. Then, you will save yourself countless hours of planning and eliminate the possibility of forgetting a crucial step to having that Fairy Tale Wedding.
If you want to save thousands of dollars on the total cost of your wedding, then all you need is an inexpensive wedding planning guide that emphasizes “insider secrets” on how to find the best “discount” or “wholesale” vendors and services. With the advent of the Internet, this type of planning has never been easier!

Plan for the worst. Hope for the best.
Weddings are notorious for causing permanent conflict in a family. The stress of wanting to please all the guests, combining two families together, and the financial strain on everyone is heavy on the shoulders. A lot of this stress can be bypassed with a little forethought and planning before the first wedding item is bought.
Sit at the table with both, Bride and Groom.
Often, the groom is left out of the planning. Ultimately, this falls on the bride to be and her mother, the unpaid wedding planners. However, the groom should be involved before you make your first list. Follow the tips below and the planning process should be one of great memories for years to come. Things to address with the couple at this stage would be the following:
1. Decide on a budget.
Mom, and Dad this should begin with you. Have some kind of a number in your head. $3,000, $8,000, $25,000 what is feasible for you. How do you plan to finance this wedding. Credit card, bank loan, savings, pay as you go over the year before the wedding. Now is the time to present this to the kids. Give them a range you would like to keep them in. Now stick with it. Together, now is the time for everyone to make a decision as to the importance of each main area in a wedding.
If you come up short in the budget because you blew most of it on the dress what are you willing to give up in the other areas. Does either of the couple have the means to contribute financially and are they willing to do so. Don’t forget they also have the financial responsibility to purchase their rings, gifts for the wedding party and the helpers at the wedding. They may want to save back enough to offer to purchase at least a round of drinks for the guests from the Bride and Groom during the reception. They also have to save for the honeymoon.
If you cannot afford over a certain amount then it is up to them to come up with it themselves or scale the wedding back and find ways of achieving what they want by more economical ways. There is no reason to be in debt forever for a wedding you just can’t afford.
2. How involved do each of you want to be in the planning.
Ok, you have a budget set, you all know what numbers you’re working with.
Break this down into categories. If the groom only wants to pick out his tux or decide on a cake flavor then you know ahead of time that is all the help you will be getting from him. Decide who is ultimately the deciding vote for each category in a wedding then move on.
- Reception Site
- Cake
- Guest List
- Wedding Party
- Number of guests
- and so on..
3. Set up time frames.
Setting up time frames for each area of the planning can reduce great stress later on. This would be things such as a time to have the Save the Date made, addressed, and mailed out to guests. What date do you agree is a good time to send the official invitations. When would you prefer the groom have his tux picked out, and so on and so forth.
Everyone is busy these days. By establishing deadlines for each of these areas ahead of time then all involved know what the plan is, what is expected of them, and it helps to stay on track.
4. Set up meeting with the in-laws to be.
Call the grooms’ family and invite them to dinner to go over the wedding plans once you have them prepared, to include them and see what areas they plan to contribute in. Customarily, these areas would be the rehearsal dinner, sometimes alcohol, sometimes tux or flowers. Have a list of things that are traditionally their responsibility and ask what they are financially or physically willing to take on. You will get a more favorable response if you include them initially than if you wait until later and just ask for money.
If they are not financially capable or willing to cover all these things then ultimately this falls back onto the brides’ cost of the wedding and the plan may have to be revamped accordingly.
5. Work your categories.
You should have a list of the main things that happen in any wedding. If you have no idea where to start then search on the internet for weddings, wedding advice, wedding help and information. You will get all the ideas you need.
Create a wish list for each area. Call around and get prices so you know where you stand. Start putting a plan together. At this point if you have followed the tips mentioned above you should have a fairly good road map to follow.
Now, and only now should you begin the planning of the wedding. If you can’t get to this point and still be talking you’re probably not going to be talking at the wedding either.
Congratulations to all on your upcoming weddings.

When a couple is contemplating getting engaged, there is usually only thought of what type of engagement ring to get; one that will emulate the style of the bride-to-be as well as fit the budget of the future groom. More and more newlyweds are discovering the financial and convenient advantages of purchasing a bridal engagement ring set as opposed to an engagement ring and wedding band separately.
Complement One Another – Buying a ring set will ensure that the engagement ring and wedding band coordinate impeccably and complement one another. The wedding band should enhance the diamonds and details of the engagement ring, rather than distract from it.
Price – Buying a bridal engagement ring set will definitely cost more initially but can ultimately provide a substantial savings later on. Buying the wedding band and engagement ring together is less expensive than buying the rings independently (the engagement ring first, then a wedding band later one). Purchasing the rings separately can lead to even more additional costs if they have to be fitted together by a jeweler.
His and Hers – Depending on the jeweler, some bridal engagement ring sets also include a men’s wedding band, for a total of three complete rings. This option is ideal for couples who are looking to identically match their wedding bands.
A Perfect Match – Purchasing a bridal ring engagement set will ensure the rings fit together perfectly and the wedding band will be proportionate to fit seamlessly with the engagement ring. For example, a wedding band may need to be curved so it will fit against the engagement ring and sit neatly and evenly.
Uniform Warranty – Depending on where the rings are bought and if warranties are available, purchasing them together and from the same jeweler will ensure that the warranties and insurance covering the rings are uniform and broad in scope.
