When you want to prove how much you love, the best thing you can think of is a ring. Even a small ring- irrespective of its value- is often cherished by the owner. A wedding ring goes beyond the material value of that piece of jewelry. There are emotions, memories, happiness and a great deal of sacrifice associated with that ring.

A wedding ring also has a lot of symbolic value. It is a sign of love- of life itself. It is an integral part of a marriage ceremony. Normally the bride and the groom spend a great deal of time in searching for the perfect wedding rich. After all, the ring must be kept with oneself until one’s death.

The wedding ring also signifies the sense of unity and togetherness that a marriage entails. It is a symbol of sharing each other’s life and experiences forever. The significance of the ring differs with age, custom and traditions. However, few things remain constant. The wedding ring speaks of the couple’s dedication and the desire to be together, come what may. Various ethnic groups have different rituals regarding marriage and the exchange of the ring. Interestingly, the customs also vary individually form family to family. Often these family traditions regarding the wedding ring are queer and awe-inspiring. The ring also brings back memories of a wonderful marriage and married life for the aged couple. It reminds them of a time when both were young.

The ring finger is the perfect place to flaunt your wedding ring. Infact, the finger derives its name from the habit of putting the wedding ring on that particular finger. In many countries of the west, it is worn on the right hand. However, in some European countries like Russia and Poland it is traditionally worn on the right hand. Whichever hand the ring may go; the finger is always the same. People believe that the ring finger is connected directly to the heart and therefore the gift of one’s love should be placed close to one’s heart.

According to the Christian tradition, the bride and the from exchange rings before marriage. Rings can also be exchanged while proposing for marriage or companionship. In many places in Europe, the wedding ring must have the name of the beloved inscribed on it. It symbolizes that the person is made for his/her partner only. Therefore, the ring stands for commitment too.

The best man’s most important role in a Christian marriage is to protect the ring for the wedding. It is considered inauspicious if he loses the ring. In some like-minded cultures, the ring is presented in Church on a white pillow. A young relative is entrusted with the responsibility of carrying this secret pillow. Due to their intrinsic value in a marriage/relationship such rings are made of precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, sapphires and platinum. You can get them in any shape/size. They are often personalized to suit your purpose. They can be designed according to one’s wish or few individualize lines can be inscribed on them to make it truly memorable.

The newest tend in wedding ring is definitely futuristic titanium rings that are skin-neutral and prevents finger rashes. However, they are not readily available and need to be careful while buying them. There are online sites that prove sample designs and stresses on reliability and quality.

Here in the west, we have certain customs regarding the exchange of wedding rings that seem perfectly normal to us: a double ring exchange where the groom puts the ring on his bride’s hand followed by the bride doing the same for the groom. Types of rings used are typically gold, with the woman’s ring often encrusted in diamonds.

Changing Customs and Lasting Traditions

Elsewhere, the way that rings are exchanged, the types of rings used, and certain other formalities are acceptable, customs which are often brought with them when families emigrate abroad. Is there a right way to give and exchange wedding bands? Yes: in whatever way you feel is right! Customs are changing, but one thing remains the same: couples are sealing their marriage vows with an exchange of rings no matter where they live in the world.

The rings given – Without a doubt, gold is the metal of choice for brides and grooms when they marry no matter where in the world that they live. Platinum is an also prized, but often too expensive for couple living in emerging nations, while silver is favored by some who appreciate its look and value. Diamonds and less popularly, other gemstones are often included, particularly for the woman’s ring. Some men are coming around and accepting diamonds on their own rings, but in most cases men prefer a wedding ring that is understated and won’t get in the way of their work.

The way that they are presented – Ring bearers are sometimes included in wedding ceremonies to present the wedding bands to the bride and the groom. In other cases, the best man will hold the rings and present them at the appropriate time during the wedding ceremony.

In some European countries, the bride’s wedding band is the same ring given for engagement – the only difference is that a special engraving is made (usually with the wedding date and sometimes the names of the couple inscribed). Which hand the ring ends up on can vary from country to country and from religious faith to religious faith; these days most modern brides simply choose the most favorable way to display their wedding bands that appeals to them alone.

The meaning of the rings – In all cases, the exchange of wedding bands symbolizes the couple’s fidelity to each other. For the devout, wedding bands represent that plus their relationship to God whom they see as the central part (foundation) of the relationship.

Some women prefer to wear their wedding rings on the bottom of their finger with the engagement ring first, while for others just the opposite holds true. The “closer to the heart” meaning is important to some, while the convenience of easily removing the engagement ring while at work or doing chores is important to others.

One, Two, or Three or More Rings?

In time’s past, only one ring would be given and that ring would be from the man to the woman when they got married or were first engaged. A different economic climate limited the options of yesteryear’s couples, but in many cases those restrictions are no longer in place.

Today, couples from around the world are enjoying an economic tide that is raising the financial prospects of billions of people, allowing the man to give an engagement ring, the couple to exchange rings at their wedding ceremony, and the couple once again exchanging eternity or anniversary rings later on in their marriage.

Whichever way that you choose to demonstrate your love, quality engagement, wedding, and anniversary rings are bands that are meant to stand the test of time, symbolic representatives of your relationship.

More and more couples are saying “I Do” in exotic and unusual places. This trend is called Destination Weddings. Definitely not your traditional wedding, but many couples are opting for jetting off to an overseas dream wedding and honeymoon combination at a much cheaper price. Is it for you?

Let’s objectively look at the pros and cons of having a Destination Wedding. But of course, if you’re both set on flying to Bora Bora and getting hitched on the glistening, white pearl sand in front of a crystal blue lagoon, then hey, don’t let me stop you! But I’m still going to share with you the cons of making that decision.

The Cons

1.	Destination weddings may be less expensive for the betrothed couple, but very costly for everyone else. Paying for airline tickets, accommodations, food and then a wedding gift to boot, will prohibit many people from attending the wedding. Therefore, probably most of your close friends and family are not going to come.

2.	Planning a wedding long distance can end up being a nightmare. Weddings in themselves wreak havoc with the couple as well as their families and their friends. Organizing a wedding over the phone and via emails can prove to be more than anyone bargained for. Unless you have someone that you know who lives nearby your destination that can check things for you, you may be biting off more than you can chew.

3.	Many countries perform marriage ceremonies that are not recognized as being legal and binding in the United States or in other countries. This is a very important consideration when planning a Destination Wedding.

Okay, now that I’ve probably annihilated the thought of you having a Destination Wedding, let me share the other side of this coin. And there really is another side.

The Pros

1.	A Destination Wedding combination honeymoon will save you money. Many exotic beach destinations are downright cheap with a good amount of European countries a close second. Then there are the multi-cultural countries of Asia. Two of the more popular destinations there are Thailand and Bali.

2.	Your honeymoon is at your back door! Perhaps the most amazing positive about Destination Weddings is that fact that you are tying the knot at your honeymoon location. And many hotels and resorts around the world offer wedding/honeymoon packages which can save you thousands of dollars compared to a wedding in the states.

3.	Want to spare yourself the agony of seeing people that you never wanted to invite to the wedding in the first place? If that sounds about right, then this is the perfect wedding for you.

4.	A Destination Wedding has a unique, magical quality to it.

Hopefully this will help you decide if a Destination Wedding is the right one for you. If you are non-traditionalists, you probably will find great joy and satisfaction in finding that one, unique destination that is perfect for the two of you. If you have always dreamed of the fairytale wedding in your home town surrounded by close friends and family, then it doesn’t matter how much you save, it just isn’t right for you. Either way, memories are being made.

The wedding ring is a ring that will often be made from precious metals, and it will be worn on the left ring finger. It is also worn on the right ring finger in countries such as Norway or Russia. The purpose of a wedding ring is to represent a marriage. Both spouses will wear rings to show that they are commited to each other. The custom originated in Europe, but has spread to many other countries which are outside of Europe. In some cultures the wedding ring is only one of three rings that will be given when a couple is in the process of getting married.

The other two rings are the engagement ring and the promise ring. The engagement ring is well known, and will be given when a couple has become engaged. A promise ring is not as well known, but will be given once a couple begins courting each other. In many European countries, the name of the soon to be spouse will be placed within the ring. While wedding rings have traditionally be worn by women, wedding rings are now designed for men as well. It is the responsibility of the best man to make sure the rings of the couple are cared for. The best man will present both rings during the marriage ceremony.

In highly intricate weddings, a ring bearer may be used to carry the rings as well. The ring bearer will usually be a young male who is related to either the groom or bride. He will carry the rings on elaborate pillows. In some European countries, the engagement ring is the wedding ring, and the status of the ring will change once the couple is married. If a different ring is used for the wedding ring, the bride may still wear it if she chooses. The choice of which finger the ring should be worn on has changed over the centuries.

Traditionally, the fourth finger on the left or right hand has always been used, and when a married couple wears their rings on their left hands, this is a sign that they have eternal love for each other. While wedding bands have historically been worn by women in the US and UK, they are now commonly worn by men. The use of diamonds on wedding ring is extremely popular. The precious metals that are used in the ring will often be gold or white cold, but titanium has also become popular, especially for men. Many couples will avoid using diamonds and will use other precious gems such as rubies or sapphires.

In addition to this, stainless steel is now being used in a number of wedding rings. Stainless steel has a much higher durability than gold, and can showcase a better finish than titanium. Some metals are poisonous, and are not used for wedding rings. If you want to buy a gem, you will want to measure the quality based on its softness. Gems have a softness scale that ranges from 1 to 10. A gem with a rating of 1 will be the softest, while a gem with a rating of 10 will be the hardest. Gems that have a rating of 7 should not be picked for wedding rings.
