    My fiance and I have to pay for our own wedding, so we’re planning on doing an all-inclusive caribbean wedding that includes the actual ceremony if we stay 7 nights. So we can afford that. But we also want to celebrate when we return to the states with our family and friends, but we’re finding that the wedding receptions are the part that’s the most expensive.     Wedding planning can be a very stressful time. Many of us have seen the reality t.v. show about bridezilla, the out of control bride. But you don’t have to be so stressed out that you treat your family and friends like they were doormats or worse. Let’s take a moment to think about it.

    There are a gazillion things to do and think about as you plan your wedding. You want the perfect wedding, the day you’ve always dreamed about. But let’s be realistic here. You can plan everything right down to the smallest detail, but chances are that not everything is going to go as you planned. Inevitably something will go wrong. If you accept this possibility as you plan your wedding this will help to reduce the amount of stress you experience.

    Try to remember that if something doesn’t go exactly according to your wedding plans that it’s not the end of the world. It will probably be something that you, your groom, friends and family members will laugh about for years to come. If you get it on tape you might even send it to America’s Funniest Videos and win $10,000. There is always a bright side to most everything if you will just look for it. It is the bridezillas who fail to look for that silver lining in every cloud and make themselves and everyone around them miserable.

    I saw a report on a national morning show recently about women who became very depressed after their wedding and honeymoon were over. If she has a talent for flower selection and arranging, you might ask her to deal with the florist. Perhaps your dad could arrange hotel accommodations for any out of town guests. If you have brothers or sisters that are capable of helping out, by all means let them. If you have aunts that you are close to and can trust with a particular job, then ask them to help. Make it a family affair. You can never have too much help. The more help you have the less chance of you becoming bridezilla.

    DO NOT PROCRASTINATE! Begin planning your wedding early, have your checklist of things to do and check them off as they are done, try not to micromanage everything and enjoy planning your wedding.

    Save the Date Cards announce to all your family and friends the date of your wedding and simply ask them to reserve that day especially for you. They can be very useful for guests that will be having to travel long distances to attend the wedding.  If someone is coming from out of the country,  making needed arrangements early can save them a great deal of money on their traveling expenses.  Also Save the Date Cards can be very helpful for a destination wedding. Giving early notice to all who plan to attend gives them the opportunity to request vacation from their employer and helps them save them a substantial amount of money on their travel expenses.

    In order to give your guests plenty of notice Save the Date Cards should be mailed out a minimum of 4-6 months before your wedding date and as long as 12-15 months in advance if you will have many guests traveling from afar.  This will allow your guests ample time to make all the necessary travel arrangements so that they will be able to attend your special event.

    Save the Date Cards are not meant to be formal.  The main purpose is just to let your family and friends know the actual date of the wedding so that they can plan ahead. There are many styles to choose from.  When deciding on a Save the Date Card, you may want to try and match your wedding invitations.  Save the date cards are mostly used as card stock or magnets and they are normally post card size.  You can add a picture of you and your fiancé, or embellishments that are sure to add a personal touch. Most brides prefer the Save the Date Magnets because your guests can put it on their refrigerator and it serves as a constant reminder.

    Here are some guidelines for what is needed on the card or magnet: both the bride and grooms name, the wedding date and location of the wedding. You can feel free to add any other information you feel will assist your guest in making their plans. You will also want to include the wording ”invitation to follow” so that your guests will know that an official wedding invitation with more specific information will be mailed to them at a later date.

    It is also recommended that you include other helpful information with your Save the Date Card such as airline, car rental and hotel information that will make things easier on your guests.     My fiance and I are planning to have a courthouse wedding ceremony this May with close family and friends. Then a few days later we are planning to have a huge wedding reception for everyone to come and celebrate our union.

    The problem is, I don’t know that "correct" words or phrase to use on the wedding reception invitations without sounding offensive to those who may have not been invited to the ceremony.
