Long after the dust has settled on your big day, your wedding rings will be a beautiful reminder of a once great day and a fantastic and exciting future. So why not design your own wedding rings so that they are as unique as you both.
This article is designed to hopefully help you decide whether or not you should design your own wedding ring. Here are some things you should take into consideration.
Set a budget and try and stay within it. The great thing about designing your own ring is the sky’s the limit so you need to show restraint and don’t let yourself get carried away. The last thing you need is to blow a chunk of your wedding budget on the rings.
Make sure you choose a wedding ring design that will compliment your engagement ring. There is no point going for a traditional wedding ring if your engagement ring is modern. You will also need to think about you. What kind of person are you in your day to day life, the sporty type, business type, artistic type, modern or classically dressed person? You will be wearing this for a long time in many different circumstances.
You need to think about whether or not you want a matching set. If you want a truly unified visual effect on the day then your rings will need to be a matching set that match both your engagement rings and each other.
You might want to take your family culture or ethnicity into account when thinking of the design. Our personal heritage is important and it is an easy way of getting ideas for a unique design. For instance in some cultures the bride receives two wedding rings. Personally I think that’s just greedy;-)
You may want to do a little recycling with rings that may have been left to you by relatives or loved ones. What better way to remember a relative than by melting the jewellery they left you down and making new wedding rings for you both. Obviously not everyone is comfortable with this so discuss this with the relevant people before deciding to do it.
Keep your metals consistent because you don’t want your engagement ring and wedding ring aging differently. In time, what was a great match will turn into an odd couple and you don’t want that happening with the rings or you and your partner. The rings need to be made of durable stuff, much like yourselves.
You will need to decide on whether to have a wide band or thin. A wide band is better if you are going for multiple bands of metal. Different bands of metal can be a very modern look and has become quite popular and it also allows for a plain pattern without looking boring.
Should you go for an engraved message? You can go for a vow you have made to each other, the date of the wedding or a simple message of love and commitment to each other. But guy’s no football or baseball teams, however tempting it may be.
Some people have their engagement ring and wedding ring soldered together to give the feeling of one ring. This also enables you to make sure they are twisted right so as to look their best all the time. But remember, if you do this you can’t wear just one of them and you can’t really pass one of them down the line later.
Well… I hope this helps you if you are thinking of designing your own wedding ring. An original design that is unique to you and your partner can be a beautiful thing if done properly and it doesn’t have to be mega expensive. Good luck and happiness.
