I am not getting married until next year, but I am just curious. Also if anyone knows of where to get nice wedding bands for under 0 each please let me know :)

They say that the best made plans may go awry, and that is certainly true of weddings. You plan and you plan, but sometimes things pop up at the last minute that have to be dealt with. These are some of the things to think about…

One of the main reasons that couples need contingency plans for their wedding is inclement weather. If you are having an outdoor ceremony, you definitely need to have a rain plan. Either rent a tent (and a floor if it is a really soggy day), or have an alternate indoor location. If your wedding does end up being moved at the last minute, be certain to get word to all of the guests!

Transportation is another thing that can be affected by a surprise rainstorm. After all, a horse-drawn carriage ride is very romantic, but not in the pouring rain. If you were planning to walk to your wedding, or take open transportation, be sure to have a Plan B, just in case.

The wedding bands are a very important part of the ceremony, so be sure that you give them ample thought in advance. If you will have a ring bearer, you might want to reconsider putting the actual wedding jewelry on his little pillow. Many couples tie a pair of symbolic rings to the pillow, and give the real ones to the best man (who is hopefully more responsible than a young child! If not, give the rings to someone else to hold.).

Sometimes things happen with the wedding bands that no one expects, and you just have to roll with the punches. At one wedding I attended, the groom’s hand had swollen from a recent windsurfing expedition, and the bride could not get the ring onto his finger. They were pushing and pulling, and the whole group of guests was laughing. The ceremony was in a hotel, and just as a waiter approached with a pat of butter on a silver tray, the groom finally managed to jam the ring on to his finger. What worked? Dipping his ring finger into a glass of Champagne!

Other mishaps can happen with wedding jewelry that are more easily planned for. In your wedding day kit, bring along a stash of extra earring backs (or a pencil eraser can be used in a pinch), safety pins for clasp issues, and even some heavy thread in case one of your bridesmaids snaps her strand of pearls and needs a quick fix.

What are some other wedding contingency plans that couples should have in place? A big one is a plan in case uninvited guests show up at the reception. If you are diligent about following up the R.s.v.p.s, hopefully you will not encounter this problem, but it does happen more often than you may think. If there are a few guests that you have not heard from that you think might make a surprise appearance, have a plan in place with your caterer.

For a buffet style wedding, the only issue is finding a seat, but for plated dinners, every meal must be accounted for. You do have the option of ordering a couple of extra dinners, just in case. If you do not want to go to that expense, let the wedding coordinator at your site know that extra guests are welcome to join the reception for dancing after dinner.

Every wedding has a few surprises, and there is no way to plan for all of them. Once you are confident that you have contingency plans in place for the big issues, allow yourself to relax about the rest of it. As the old saying goes, “Don’t sweat the small stuff”!

I played in a wedding band for years so I thought I’d pass on a bit of help when it comes to getting a good wedding band for your wedding.

The first thing to do is book your venue. They take longer to secure than bands and a lot of them have relationships with bands they use a lot so can make recommendations. The other reason for this is you’ll be able to tell the band the size of the stage (must have a stage/area that is big enough) the access points and so on.

The next thing to do is to shortlist the bands and ask them their prices and whether they will learn a wedding song especially for you. Most will but a few won’t. This will shorten the list a bit more is my guess. Don’t be too worried about the price for now – most bands will negotiate. A good ballpark figure is to give each band member a decent days pay and 20% for the cost of the production. It also makes sense to look for bands that are local to the venue first because this can save you a hotel bill for 5! You will also need to feed them so don’t neglect that – hungry musicians don’t tend to play as well.

The next thing is to ask them for their song list and whether they will provide music in the breaks. You will need to know that the band can provide the right music for all your guests tastes. It is a big family occasion and you want to be certain that all the family will have fun (not just the heavy metal fans).

Now have a listen to them on their website or any other demo they provide but don’t get too carried away here. The amount of wedding bands I know that have recordings of members that left over 2 years ago is scary (I’m still on a band’s demo that I left 5 years ago). No, the next thing is to go and see them perform live. This will take a bit of effort but it is well worth it. This is your big day – it has to be right. If you have someone you trust who won’t get drunk and trash someone else’s wedding, delegate this job if necessary. They can always record a bit on their mobile for you to see.

You will probably have a shortlist of three or four wedding bands at this point. I have done a bit of research and the deciding factor nearly always seems to be cost, but can I say for a couple of hundred dollars or pounds it is worth getting the band you really want. You can try negotiating (I would) but the better bands are nearly always pretty heavily booked in the wedding season. You’ve got a better chance if you have decided to have a wedding on either edge of the season. The thing to keep in mind is that this is it. Your wedding day. It will be videoed, photographed and be a family talking point for years. Get the best band you can and it will go down as the most fun you family and friends have had for years! One band I was in played all 3 daughter’s weddings of one client.

Lastly, pay attention to the contract. Make sure you are getting the band you saw. Bands are notorious for getting in ‘deps’ (or deputizers). Specify that the band you have seen is the band you will get and include the option to pay a reduced sum if someone is changed. Some bands will baulk at this but it’s your day and if you get a less than good drummer the whole event could be compromised. Also, remember you will have to ensure that you have a good electricity supply if you go for an exotic wedding or one on a boat. You will have to feed the band, accommodate the band if from out of town and, to a degree, keep them in drinks (limit the alcohol just in case). You will also need to give them time to set up (usually one and a half hours max for a 5 piece band).

Happy wedding!

There’s no doubt about it – choosing a wedding ring can be one of the most difficult and indeed one of the most fraught decisions that the happy couple will have to make. Because neither party (that being the prospective bride and groom) want to have the process stripped of its romance, it can quite often happen that decisions are made without an adequate level of conversation – each going along with the other not wishing to ruin the happy moment by getting into “practicalities” Still, that’s not to say that practicalities of choosing a wedding band can’t be considered. Consider this article to be an astute guide on the matter.

The location of your nearest jeweler who stocks wedding rings could be found on the Internet. Quality rings may take some finding but it will be worth the effort and to that end the local shopping mall may not be the ideal place to do your ring shopping. Although you will undoubtedly find you can buy a wedding ring at a mall jewelers; they may not have the range or indeed the quality that a specialist will provide. When choosing, you will want a ring for the bride that will complement the engagement ring she is already wearing.

Remember the wedding ring should not be excessively elaborate, or overshadow the engagement ring. A good jeweler will be able to provide a ring that has been designed to match. If this is not possible you will need to try on as many wedding bands as you can to see how they look when positioned next to the engagement ring.

Fashions in rings come and go but the traditional metals including: (1) White Gold, (2) Titanium, (3) Silver and (4) Yellow Gold; more lately, platinum has become the ring of choice, especially for men that are looking for something more durable. Of the two partners, it is the man who will appreciate a platinum ring’s greater durability. Traditionally, men are more likely to cause damage to a ring; hence the need for the harder metal.

The next step is to have the wedding ring fingers measured; leave this to the professionals if you want to be confident the rings will fit on the wedding day. Neither ring should be so tight that they require lubrication to put them on or take them off; just as in the same way they should not be so loose they can be easily lost.

If you want to make sure your rings are ready in good time for the wedding, give your jeweler plenty of time to complete any adjustments; he may have a number to complete and you do not want a problem on the wedding day. There is a huge variety of wedding bands available these days; choosing the right one may take some time and a number of visits to the jeweler.

Wedding rings represent the love two people have for one another and are something that particularly the bride will place great emotional stock in. It therefore makes sense to take the time to choose a wedding ring that you will both enjoy wearing.

The marriage of two individuals has been traditionally solemnized and celebrated by a wedding ceremony. The rites and rituals performed in the ceremony differ from one culture to another but the ultimate aim is the same; mainly to sanctify the union of two people. It is an event that is fondly remembered by the groom and the bride along with their near and dear ones.

The wedding-band is a sign or a pointer that allows others to know and identify a married man or a woman. It is a band that distinguishes a married couple from the others. This practice has been in vogue since ancient times, although there have been several modifications to the same. Nevertheless, the wedding band has retained its significance and importance to this day.

A Brief History of the Wedding Band

The earliest wedding-bands were perhaps designed and worn by the Egyptians. These were made of plant stems and were round in shape. It has been found that the circular shape denoted eternal love between married partners. Both the husband and the wife used to wear these wedding bands. Later the tradition was continued by the Romans although this time, only the women had to wear the bands. Another level of connotation was also added during these times. Apart from being a sign of marriage, the wedding-band also meant that the woman was a ‘property’ of an individual man, thus becoming a mark of patriarchal ownership or claim. In the Middle East and Asia this was also a symbol of faithfulness for the woman.

The Modern Wedding Band

Although the connotation and definition of marriage vows have undergone a series of different interpretations, wedding-bands have continued to be a significant component of a marriage till today. Replacing the humble plant stem, today there are gold and silver bands with precious gems and stones embedded in them. Diamond studded bands with glittering jewels are also pretty common. Whatever is the design and the look, the role of the wedding band remains the same, that of denoting the respect and commitment towards the sacred institution called marriage.

The Options You Have

There are several wedding-bands that are readily available in the market nowadays. These can be of different designs, made of different metals and decorated with expensive gemstones. You can choose from the variety of options. Alternatively you can get your wedding-band specially made for you and your partner. Customized wedding bands are always more exclusive and unique. It can be made according to the style of your choice, and can also have your name embossed on it. Moreover, you can get t in pairs too! So the wedding band you sport can match your partner’s and both of you can complement each other throughout your lives! In most cases the band worn by the man is broader than that worn by the lady. Some people often get their birthstone embedded in the wedding bands.

As you can see, there are myriad options that are available to you when it comes to your wedding band. But always remember that, more than being a fashion accessory, the band symbolizes the togetherness and commitment that the wedlock brings with it.

When a couple is contemplating getting engaged, there is usually only thought of what type of engagement ring to get; one that will emulate the style of the bride-to-be as well as fit the budget of the future groom. More and more newlyweds are discovering the financial and convenient advantages of purchasing a bridal engagement ring set as opposed to an engagement ring and wedding band separately.

Complement One Another – Buying a ring set will ensure that the engagement ring and wedding band coordinate impeccably and complement one another. The wedding band should enhance the diamonds and details of the engagement ring, rather than distract from it.

Price – Buying a bridal engagement ring set will definitely cost more initially but can ultimately provide a substantial savings later on. Buying the wedding band and engagement ring together is less expensive than buying the rings independently (the engagement ring first, then a wedding band later one). Purchasing the rings separately can lead to even more additional costs if they have to be fitted together by a jeweler.

His and Hers – Depending on the jeweler, some bridal engagement ring sets also include a men’s wedding band, for a total of three complete rings. This option is ideal for couples who are looking to identically match their wedding bands.

A Perfect Match – Purchasing a bridal ring engagement set will ensure the rings fit together perfectly and the wedding band will be proportionate to fit seamlessly with the engagement ring. For example, a wedding band may need to be curved so it will fit against the engagement ring and sit neatly and evenly.

Uniform Warranty – Depending on where the rings are bought and if warranties are available, purchasing them together and from the same jeweler will ensure that the warranties and insurance covering the rings are uniform and broad in scope.

When planning your wedding evening entertainment, you need a top class live band who can keep your guests dancing to their favourite songs all night long. You’ve had a long day to organize from hairdressers to florists, from church to hotel, from photographer to food. Wouldn’t it be good to be able to relax after the end of your wedding breakfast and not to have to then organize the evening as well.

I have heard many tales of woe from brides who were married in the north east area where the only entertainment booked has been a DJ, often no more than one of the hotel staff with virtually no training or experience, put behind the built in antique disco console with a small collection of tired 80s disco hits. Needless to say, the majority of the guests have sneaked away as soon as the buffet has been served and left the Bride and Groom with an empty room and a very sad end to their day. It’s no good at this point wishing they’d spent a few hundred pounds extra – often no more than the cost of the cake which has not been touched – on an experienced live band to provide some first class professional entertainment for the evening.

There are some excellent professional wedding bands serving all the north east including Darlington, Newcastle, Durham and Teesside and of course some not so good!

So, what kind of band would you look for? Here are my tips for finding the right band for your event.

First and foremost you need to remember that you will have 3 or 4 generations represented among your guests and you need a band who can entertain them all. Avoid “club and pub” bands who tend to only play heavy rock. You may have had a great time after a few drinks but how would your mum and dad like them? Much better is to seek out a band that has performed for a lot of different kinds of function and will therefore have a much broader repertoire of songs.

Second, always ask what the band will wear. If you and your guests have spent a small fortune on new clothes, do you really want a bunch of guys in tee shirts and jeans traipsing into your wedding?

Third, how loud will they be? Can they perform at a lower volume if the venue is small, and, for that matter, can they make enough noise to fill a huge marquee?

Fourthly, will you get the band you think you booked. Some bands can’t resist taking on every booking offered to them which means that on your special night you could see a bunch of “deps” introducing themselves to each other and trying to sort out what songs they can all play! Try to book a band that only accepts one booking per day.

Probably the most important question is can you trust the band to organise your evening entertainment so that it works well for you and not just for them, Will they bring recorded music for their intervals or will your guests be left sitting in silence, and will they perform for sufficient time to justify the expense.

The best way to find a great band is to search Google or other good search engines for wedding bands in your area, perhaps searching for “wedding bands north east” and check out the bands’ websites. A good band will generally have a good informative website, and remember, if their website is dull they probably will be too!

Above all, remember a good live band will make your evening and will always be preferable to just a DJ, and considering that the cost will no doubt be a small fraction of the overall cost of your wedding it could turn out to be your best investment.

If you are getting married and you are looking for the perfect wedding ring then you will most definitely want to check out platinum wedding rings. They say that gold will stand the test of time, but if the truth were told, platinum is a stronger and more durable metal. Platinum has started its own trend in wedding rings, where gold offers a more traditional setting. Platinum is offering a more modern look, which appeals to more of today’s newlyweds.

Here’s a good way to see whether a platinum wedding ring is the way to go with your bride. Check her jewelry and see if she wears mainly silver jewelry. The platinum ring will accent her current jewelry. The platinum wedding ring is also a great choice if the groom or the bride is prone to allergies. Especially allergies to metal as these can hinder your choice of wedding. Platinum is more than 90% pure, making it hypo-allergenic for most people.

For a beautiful and rare metal to make your wedding bands out of, choose platinum. For a great ring, you will want to make sure that you have it sized properly, as it will not look right if you have it too loose or too tight. When going to buy a ring, the first thing that you need to do is get the person sized for the ring. In some cases, it may be a better choice to take the person with you to make sure that you have the absolute correct size.

Perhaps you want the ring to be a surprise, so it may not be feasible to take the person with you to the store to get their ring size. If that is the case, you can see if the person needs to have a current ring resized or you can even be clever and make an imprint of one of their current rings. You can use soap, clay or any other malleable substance to make an impression of the ring. You can then take this to the jeweler to get the correct sizing. You can also try putting one of the person’s rings on your own finger so you know how it fits, making it easier for you to tell the jeweler what size you need.

If you are planning to buy a ring and you want something unique and beautiful, then platinum is the way to go. There are so many perfect settings you can choose from or you can even have someone make you a ring as an original design, making it a one of a kind ring for your loved one. Just remember, if the ring is the wrong size, you can always have the ring resized to fit your loved one perfectly.

Picking out the man’s wedding ring can sometimes be more difficult then picking out the woman’s ring. Let’s face it; it is just not “manly” for a man to wear jewelry. So how in the world are you supposed to pick out a man’s wedding ring? Here are some questions to ask yourself when choosing your man’s wedding ring.

1) What is the Price? Men do not like to spend money on jewelry. Money can be spent on a tool set or a big screen television perhaps, but not on a man’s wedding ring. Most men are not going to be impressed if you spent a lot of money on their wedding band. They would much rather hear that you got a killer deal on it. Definitely do not feel obligated to spend a lot of money on your man’s wedding ring. Anything that doesn’t turn his finger green will probably work just fine.

2) What Size? How large does you man want his wedding ring? The width of the wedding band is something you should think about. Some men like just thin bands while others like very thick wedding bands. This is something that you need to consider when picking out your man’s wedding ring.

3) What is His Style? What does your husband-to-be like? Is he more of a traditional person or does he like things that are new and unique. This is usually a good indicator of what he wants in a wedding ring. Some men are completely satisfied with the standard gold wedding band; however, others like to find what is new in the market such as a tungsten ring (with a tungsten ring, your husband can basically put his finger through a meat grinder and their ring will survive without a scratch). A man’s wedding ring should reflect his personality.

4) Is There a Way to make it Meaningful? It is always nice to make the wedding ring meaningful. For example, you can pick the style of his father’s or your father’s wedding. Possibly there is a family heirloom that can be passed on to him or maybe there is something that you can engrave onto his ring. If possible, try to give significance to the man’s wedding ring.

5) Should it match my Wedding Band? In most cases, the man’s wedding ring matches the woman’s wedding band, but this is not always the case. If you are not sure what to get, it is always safe to get matching wedding bands but make sure to talk to him about it, he could possible have something else in mind.

6) Does he want to be Part of the Process? This is probably the most important question. Maybe he knows exactly what he wants for his wedding ring and you are worrying about picking one out for him for no reason. It is traditional for the man and the woman to select their wedding bands together. While he may be completely disinterested, let him have the chance to be a part of the decision. This ring will be on his finger for quite some time, so he should get a say in the matter.

Don’t let picking out your man’s wedding ring become too difficult of a task. Just remember to pick something that fits him and his personality and make sure to invite him to be a part of the process. When picking out your man’s wedding ring, it is time to think about what he likes (since he is the one wearing it) instead of what you want for him. Make him happy. The bottom line here is to know your man.
