Perhaps one of the most exciting parts for the bride-to-be with regard to planning a wedding is buying the wedding dress. Many future brides have dreamt of this special day for years and the dress is the icing on the cake, so to speak. There are a few steps brides-to-be should take when buying their dress in order to make the final selection the perfect one.

Determine Your Bridal Dress Budget

Most individuals plan their weddings with a budget in mind. Therefore, every step of the wedding planning process will often have a price tag attached to it. Before heading out to the bridal dress shop try to determine what your budget will be with regard to a dress purchase. This will help you to determine where to shop and what you are able to afford when looking for a dress within that shop. Since one is often overwhelmed by the wedding dress choices it is also a good way to narrow down the options and zone in on the perfect dress for your individual tastes as well as your wallet.

Have a Style of Dress in Mind

It is also a good idea to have a certain style of dress in mind. Decide whether you are looking for a strapless, thin strap, short sleeve or long sleeve dress. Also, determine what length of dress you are most comfortable with as some prefer long dresses with breathtaking trains whereas others opt for a shorter, simpler style. In addition, since wedding dresses range anywhere from simple creations to ornate masterpieces, it is also wise to determine what style you are most interested in. By having a style of dress in mind, the bridal dress search will be that much easier to complete.

Try on Different Dresses to Pick the Best One

Although some may fall in love with the first dress which they try on, this can often be deceiving as it may simply be the feel of a bridal dress on for the first time which creates such emotions. Therefore, try to put on a few different dresses to truly determine which one you like the best. After all you can always come back to the first one and buy that particular dress if it turns out that it is truly the favorite of the bunch.

Consider Purchasing Shoes and Accessories at the Bridal Shop

Since the dress itself is only part of the completed look it is a good idea to consider what types of accessories and shoes you will be wearing with the dress. Bridal shops often carry a good variety of these items and it may be best to consider buying them at the shop where you purchase your dress. Doing so will allow everything to match perfectly and be ready around the same time. Also, you won’t have to be running around to various stores trying to complete the ensemble and choose all the additional items to go along with your wedding dress.

Nowadays many people who are planning to get married lead such busy lives that they may not have the time to go from store to store looking for just the right wedding dress. There are plenty of websites around which are attached to stores this means it is possible to look for an online wedding dress and then go to the nearest supplier to pick it up.

There are so many choices available to the modern bride, particularly with the rise of the internet. It is possible to find an online wedding dress in just the style, size and color that you need if you do your research. Modern wedding dresses don’t have to be white, they can be in a variety of colors. It is false to assume that brides have always worn white, it did not actually become popular until Queen Victoria got married in a white dress. There has been a trend towards medieval and Gothic style wedding dresses and again these can be found in a variety of materials and colors.

Many modern wedding dresses are inspired by clothes worn on the catwalk – it is a simple matter to convert some of the nineteen twenties style clothing into modern wedding dresses. Brides want their wedding to be romantic and this is often evident in their style of dress, lace is making a comeback and you can get an online wedding dress if you choose, that is made entirely of lace.

One of this year’s trends has been fitted bodices and flared skirts and this is now evident in modern wedding dresses. Fabric is the key element for modern wedding dresses. You can find an online wedding dress in almost any fabric you can think of, and when it comes to modern wedding dresses then the more luxurious that material the better.

Every bride wants to look special on her wedding day, she wants to believe that her wedding dress is the only one like it; and this is possible in the modern world. Many brides will have their wedding dresses specially made, it is even possible to have a wedding dress made to your own specifications. Modern wedding dresses are often designed to fit in with a particular theme, something that has come about with the growing tendency to have a professional organize your wedding.

This last year or so there has been a trend towards vintage, vintage furniture, vintage cars, and vintage wedding dresses. Many so called modern wedding dresses hark back to an earlier age as there is a demand for medieval and Victorian style dresses. Modern brides to be will find a huge variety of online wedding dresses to choose from, including vintage. Modern wedding dresses can be long or short, sleeveless or with long sleeves. Whatever style you choose, and whether you have a dress custom made or order an online wedding dress, it should be a dress that you feel comfortable in as this is meant to be the happiest day of your life.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh the Wedding Dress!! You want it to be so perfect! Here’s the scoop… you want your dress to fit, right? Okay then. Planning a wedding can be so exciting and sometimes it is really hard to control the urge to run out and buy a dress right away. Whatever you do, do not buy a wedding dress that doesn’t fit “yet” and then turn around and try to squeeze yourself into the dress at the last minute. A wedding dress should look like it is a part of, or an extension of you – not too big and not too small. If you are planning to lose a large amount of weight before your wedding, then whatever you do, do not go out impulse shopping and buy the wrong dress. This will only cause you grief and possibly force your hand to purchase a second dress.

If you feel that you are at a good weight, and even if there is a possibility that you might lose just a “few” pounds because of wedding jitters and excitement, then go ahead and purchase your dress as far in advance as you’d like. If you have 15 or more pounds that you feel you “need” to shed before the wedding and you have a lot of time before the big day, then whatever you do, don’t purchase that dress yet! So often, women will buy a dress 2 sizes too small knowing that they have some weight they need to lose before they can even squeeze into the dress; but because of all the excitement, parties, stress and what-not, they unfortunately never manage to lose the weight. My suggestion to you, is that even if you have plenty of time before your wedding, and you know you need to lose some weight, but you find a dress that you absolutely “have to have”, be sure to buy one that fits. Before making your purchase, you should ask a seamstress if the dress can easily be taken in if need be. Trust me, it is easier to take a dress in than it is to let it out.

So what kind of wedding dress have you always dreamed of? Is it something that can easily be found, or is it exotic and EXPENSIVE? Your best bet is to first look online to get an idea of what type of gown appeals to you. However, if you do find a dress online that you really like – BUYER BEWARE!! Make sure you find out if the dress will be shipped from the same country that you are living in. If not, be sure to allow plenty of time for delivery and alterations. Do some research and check to make sure that their company is legitimate. If you don’t find what you are looking for online, then the next step is to purchase a couple of Bridal Magazines. More often than not, the dress designer, their contact information, and sometimes the price is listed in the magazine. Aside from finding beautiful dresses online or in a magazine, many bridal boutiques offer the latest in designer dresses; although they can be a bit pricey. Another option is finding a seamstress, who can make something similar to what you’ve found online or in a magazine. Just be sure that you ask to see examples of their previous work.

Another thing you need to keep in mind when choosing a wedding dress is to be sure that it fits well and also works with your body type. It is not a whole lot of fun wearing something that just does not fit your body shape. One example is if you had your heart set on a strapless gown, but your bust line was not ample enough to hold up a strapless dress; you would be spending much of your time during the ceremony and reception worrying about whether it is slipping down or not. Or if you are real busty, you might be worrying that maybe TOO MUCH of you is showing! As I stated before, a dress should fit well and flow as an extension of you.

Whatever you decide to do, you should keep in mind that you need to find a dress that you not only feel comfortable in, but one that makes YOU feel beautiful as well.

Your guide to Invitation etiquette: Addressing the Wedding Invitations

The wedding invitation envelope should have the title and the invitee’s name and address printed or Penned. You can compose the invitation to be formal or casual. When sending formal wedding invitations to a married couple, the title Mr. and Mrs. should be used before the full name of the husband. Even if they are close relatives, don’t forget your correctness. You should not address them with your relation to them or a nickname. Terms like aunt and uncle are inappropriate for use on formal wedding invitations.

When inviting a couple along with their children on the wedding invitation the title and full name of their parents then the first names of their kids could be included below. The envelope however should only be addressed to the parents. It is appropriate to state only the first names of the children on wedding invitations but please don’t use the reference ‘and family’.

You should be polite when inviting single guests. When sending a wedding invitation to a single female, you should use the title Miss before her name. When inviting a single male use Mr. and then their name. If you want the person to bring the guest of their choice, you can add ‘and Guest’ after their name.

When inviting professional guests, who are a Doctor, Judge, or in the Armed forces; you must state their proper title on the wedding invitation and envelope.

What is the wedding invitation etiquette for our dress code?

Dress code should be included in the body of the wedding invitation. Even if you have no preference to your guests dress, please include the dress code in the invitation or you will receive lots of phone calls with the question.

Is it etiquette to ask for money instead of gifts?

Today it is very common to ask for money instead of gifts; however how you ask for it is where etiquette is important. You may use a wishing well but please don’t include anything about gifts in the body of the invitation. Place your wishing well on the back of the invitation or on a separate insert.

We have registered a Wedding Gift List but don’t know how to let our friends know. Is it okay to enclose a card in the wedding invitation?

You may enclose a card in your wedding invitation, or have the details printed on the back. Please do not include these details in the body of the invitation, as this is really bad etiquette.

My parents are divorced, and my father has remarried. Whose names go on the wedding invitations?

This is a tricky one and needs to be discussed with both parties to avoid offence. If your parents agree, list both names on the invitation. If they don’t want their names to appear together, the name of whoever is hosting and / or necessarily paying for – the wedding should be on the invitation.

Can I include a poem or verse with the wedding invitation?

Certainly, it may go in the body of the wedding invitation if it is only 2-3 lines maximum. It is important not to make your invitation text cluttered. If the poem or verse is longer it will need to go on the back or inside cover of the invitation or even on a separate insert.

How do I work out the RSVP date?

Response deadlines should be no later than two weeks before the special day, or the date your caterer needs a final count. If after two weeks you haven’t heard from some people, phone calls can be made to those who have not replied. RSVP cards included with your wedding invitation are a great way to make sure your guests reply quickly.

The flower girl is as important as your bridesmaid in a sense that she will walk down the aisle with you. In fact, the age of a flower girl is usually between 4 to 8 years old and choosing a dress for her will be a bit different from the way you choose your wedding dress.

Sometimes the dress of the flower girl is a mini version of your wedding dress. However, the body frame of a small girl is a lot different from an adult female, a mini version of the wedding dress can look very funny since the proportions of the dress is twisted. As a result, you may consider a dress which is not just a copy (with a smaller size) of yours.

Traditionally the dress of the flower girl should give the little girl a bridal look. It is in fact very good since in this way the girl can be tied to your wedding. The dress of the flower girl is usually white in color, as in the case of your wedding dress. A beautiful dress can make your flower girl look like a princess. However, you cannot just consider the aesthetic aspects when you are choosing the dress for your flower girl.

As in the case of choosing a regular dress, the number one issue you have to consider is comfort. You flower girl should feel comfortable when she put on the dress. You have to bear in mind that a little girl is not like us adults. There may be misbehavior if they do not feel comfortable. To this end you have to really make sure that she feels comfortable when she is wearing the dress.

Even if you are not thinking of the problem of misbehavior, there is still no point to make your flower girl feel uncomfortable. At the end of the day she is one of the people who help you in your wedding, although she is only a little girl.

Besides, you should discuss with the parents of your flower girl when you are selecting the dress. This is especially true if the parents are going to pay for the dress. You choose a flower girl because she has some special connections with you and there should also be some special connections between you and her parents. You do not want her parents to pay for something that they feel unaffordable.

If the parents of the girl really find the dress a bit unaffordable, you should try to arrange to see if you would pay for the dress. You may need to select another dress which is more affordable in this case.

Another thing that you have to consider is the size of the dress. You may order the dress for your flower girl a few months before your wedding. However, little children grow very fast. They may become taller after a few months and the dress will not fit your flower girl well. In this case, you can order a dress with longer sleeves for example, and have it change a week or two before your wedding so that the dress can fit your flower girl well.

With wedding planning, it can get very hectic quickly. That’s why you need a “plan for your wedding planning” as odd as this may sound. You should determine early on what tasks will have to be completed to successfully plan the wedding on time and within budget.

Things to Do Very Early On

There are some things that just can’t wait when it comes to wedding planning. First, secure your photographer of choice with a money deposit. Once you have a wedding date set, you can talk with a photographer and schedule the photo session for your bridal portraits and secure their services for your wedding day. The reason you’ll want to book this very early is because photographers (really good ones) are usually booked months in advance, and many weddings are on weekend days.

Find a wedding dress early on as well so you’ll have time for fitting, ordering, and alterations (if needed). The bridesmaids will need plenty of time for their dresses so keep them informed also. Choose wedding colors and possibly a wedding theme before you start planning. Once you know the colors, you can start shopping for wedding favors and decorations early and possibly find some great bargains when you’re not in a rush.

Choose a Location for Your Wedding

Probably one of the most important things you’ll do is choose a location for your wedding. If having the wedding in a church, consider the types of decorations you will need and where you might hold the reception. If planning a wedding outdoors, you’ll have to take possible weather conditions into consideration – and do have a backup plan! Pick a location with great lighting, or plan to illuminate with additional lighting. The location is important to know how many decorations you will need, depending on the size of the building or area, and how many guests you can invite.

Hire a Wedding Director

A wedding director should be booked early on as well so you can be sure to have one when the day arrives. The director can help with last minute planning and the formalities of the ceremony. You’ll likely consider the director to be a lifesaver when the day finally arrives!

Order Decorations, Flowers, Invitations, and Wedding Party Gifts

The little details can cause big headaches if you don’t do these early on. You’ll need invitations early enough to address them and mail them at least a month ahead of the wedding date. Flowers and corsages should be ordered well in advance along with small appreciation gifts for the wedding party including bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc.

To save time and possibly money, you might be able to order many of the small wedding items online. There are thousands of wedding websites that carry almost every decoration, gift, or invitation you can think of at reasonable prices. The wedding websites also usually offer great tips on wedding planning for your benefit.

Don’t forget about the wedding rings, catering, wedding songs, reception decorations, punch, food, and of course, the wedding cake. These are all crucial parts of wedding planning and have to be taken care of early on to minimize stress. If you take care of the wedding planning far in advance, you’ll see things fall into place and be able to enjoy your wedding as it was meant to be!
