You are about to indulge in one of the most enjoyable yet most frustrating experiences of your life; buying that all so infamous bridal gown! And, if you’ve been engaged for even longer than 10 minutes, you’ve already scoured every bridal magazine, leafing through the pages saying to yourself, “Nope, not like that” and “Yes, that’s what I want it to look like!” So at this point, you have an idea what direction you’re going to go in regarding style. But there are so many more factors so consider which I will cover to help the process.

First big question: how much can you afford to spend? Considering that wedding gowns can run between $100 and upwards of tens of thousands of dollars, this has to be your first consideration. And don’t forget, there is more to buy than just the gown. You’ll need to choose a headpiece, shoes, lingerie and jewelry as well as factoring in the alteration costs.

Once you have the top figure you can afford, now the hunt for the perfect gown begins. If you are on a tight budget, you may want to check out some of the bridal discount centers. These places specialize in beautiful gowns at bargain prices. How do they do it? They buy over runs or last year’s styles at a fraction of the cost which they pass along to you. Will anyone know that it is last year’s design? Of course not! And the savings can be as high as 80% off the gown’s normal retail price!

Keep in mind, that the more ornate, beaded and lacy that the gown is, the higher its price. And as you’re shopping, keep an open mind. Many of the most beautiful gowns look terrible on the hanger. When I went looking for a gown with my daughter, she kept passing this one gown that looked like a rag hanging there. She kept going back to it, because it had the beadwork on the bodice that she loves. I finally convinced her to try it on, and that ended up being her dream dress.

The next step in the hunt is to narrow the field down to 3 dresses. You must do this or you will never make a decision. Go back and try them all on again, even if you have to travel from shop to shop. Look at each one closely. How would you feel walking down the aisle in that dress? If your answer is that you’re not sure, then move on to the next. This is your day! You need to feel like the most beautiful woman in the room. Go with your gut when choosing your gown. It will not lie to you.

Now that you have the gown, look at the tag, and mark down the manufacturer and style number. If it isn’t on the tag, then ask the salesperson for it. If they won’t give it to you, move on. You don’t want to do business with them anyway. Once you are armed with that piece of information, call many different bridal shops in your area and ask them if they carry that gown. If they don’t have it in stock, ask them if they could order it. Most will say yes. Then ask the price. It works. You will save a lot of money. I’m living proof. I can remember just last year what happened to my son’s fiance and purchasing her wedding gown. She found a dress that she loved and wanted to purchase it right then and there. Note: once you put money down on a gown, most places will not refund your deposit if you cancel. I got the designer/manufacturer and the style number. I called many bridal stores. About 25% of them would not give prices over the phone. The rest all gave me a figure. In the end, she saved 60% off the original price in that first shop. I was stunned along with her. Never saw a savings like that. Just proves that markup is different from store to store. Do your homework!

When you’re about to order your gown, the salesperson will take the measurements of your bust, waist and hips. Unless you have a perfectly proportioned body (yeah right) then you’re going to end up needing some alterations. Every manufacturer has a way of measuring that cutting their gowns. So don’t get upset if you’re a size 10 and they order you a 14. It means nothing. Have the salesperson show you a sizing chart and check that your measurements line up with the sizing. People are human and make mistakes. The last thing you need is to have your gown arrive in the wrong size! And don’t forget to ask how long it will take for your gown to be shipped, making sure there’s enough time to allow in case something does go wrong.

When the gown finally arrives and you go for your first fitting, have the undergarments and shoes that you will be wearing on your wedding day with you. Honestly, if I was to splurge on one thing, it would be on the undergarments. You’re going to have them on for probably 10-12 hours. Make sure they fit right and are comfortable and are closest to your skin color. Many bridal stores will tell you white, but if your gown has even the littlest bit of transparency, it will look too opaque.

You’re ready to go. The hunt is on. Enjoy this time. Don’t get too stressed over this. You’ve got an entire wedding to plan. And don’t worry, you will look beautiful. After all, it is your day.

In order to have a perfect wedding, it is important to have that perfect wedding gown, too. This is because the wedding gown is the showpiece of any wedding event.

The wedding gown is not just a mere dress that is worn by the bride. It is the substantial emblem of purity, love, and happiness that awaits the bride in her future with her groom. That is why finding the right wedding gown is as important as preparing the wedding celebration itself.

Therefore, for people who do not know how to choose the perfect wedding gown, here are some pointers that could help you out.

1. Use all the resources available in choosing ideas and design on your wedding gown.

Before, wedding magazines are the only resources where the bride-to-be can get some useful ideas on her wedding gown. However, with the advent of the Internet, she can now browse for more ideas and concepts of wedding gowns online.

There are web sites that will provide you with full details regarding a particular wedding gown, complete with prices, different styles, and fashion sense.

2. Make a budget and strictly conform to it.

Budget will never be absent in any wedding plans. However, the most common problem that arises concerning budgeting is the fact that people do not stick to it.

Hence, if you have a budget for your wedding gown, it would be better to stick to it and not be enticed with all the promotions of whoever will make your wedding gown. Otherwise, you will fall short on the other aspects of your wedding plans.

3. Be sure to have your wedding gown looking good in all angles.

Usually, the most neglected part of the wedding gown is the back. So, when ordering a wedding gown, be sure that you will also look good from behind. Most of the time, the guests will have a look at your back so you definitely have to look good from behind.

4. Be practical with the designs that you want to use.

Like any traditional wedding gowns, large skirts and long gowns are the typical styles of yesteryears. But in today’s modern world, there are cases wherein wedding gowns like these are not at all practical especially if the venue is just small.

Moreover, it can be burdensome for the bride to carry such a heavy dress throughout the wedding celebration. What matters most is to make the bride comfortable to what she is wearing.

5. Take into account the environmental condition of the venue of the wedding.

When choosing a wedding gown, it is best to consider the weather and the venue. This will have a great effect on the kind of material that should be worn by the bride.

For example, if the wedding will take place during summer, then, it is best to choose the materials for the wedding gown that will not make the bride sweat and perspire throughout the celebration.

Indeed, deliberating on the details of the wedding gown can be a daunting task. That is why it is important to provide a hefty amount of time in preparing, designing, and ordering the wedding gown. In this manner, there will be plenty of time for any changes and modifications without the tendency to come up with a rushed work.

More importantly, the bride should always consider her comfort when choosing a wedding gown. Looks and designs will only be put to waste if the bride is not comfortable wearing it.

As the old cliché goes, you are what you wear. Therefore, it would be better to wear a wedding gown that would reflect the happiness and love that is within the bride. In turn, the wedding gown will appear before the audience as the most beautiful centerpiece of the ceremony.

If it seems like all of the wedding gowns featured in the glossy bridal magazines cost many thousands of dollars, it’s because they do! This does not mean, however, that a bride working on a tight budget has to either settle for something that she does not love or break the bank to buy a great looking wedding gown. These tips on finding a budget wedding gown will help you find a bridal gown that you not only love, but can also afford.

Believe it or not, there are some truly breathtaking wedding gowns available for under $1000, even under $500. In general, it is far better to go with a simpler wedding gown which is well made from a high quality fabric like silk than a heavily embellished one which is cheaply made from poor quality synthetics. The first will look chic and modern, the second will look, well, cheap.

If you have your heart set on a very traditional full bridal gown, but your budget is tight, your best bet is to search creatively for a quality gown, rather than settle for one which is not well made. Sample sales and blow out sales can be a great way for brides to find a dreamy designer wedding gown at an incredible discount. Search the Internet for both local sales at bridal shops and huge discount gown events like the traveling Filene’s Basement “Running of the Brides” sale.

Speaking of the Internet, you might try looking on a site like Craig’s List to find a beautiful bridal gown which has either been gently worn or sometimes not even worn at all. There will be gowns for sale not only from canceled weddings, but also from brides who had a change of heart and bought a second wedding gown. Before buying a gown in this manner, be sure that the seller will allow you to try it on to make sure it looks as pretty on you as in the pictures, since you will not be able to change your mind once you have paid for the dress. Bring a friend along to give an honest opinion.

For brides who seek budget wedding gowns with a modern chic sensibility, a great place to shop is J Crew. In their bridal collection, they feature gowns in luxe fabrics like silk chiffon, taffeta, jacquard, and silk tricotine for under $1000 and in some cases under $500. The gowns tend to have slimmer skirts, either column or a small A-line, and are perfect for a beach wedding, a garden wedding, or a city chic affair. The wedding gowns at J Crew include many fashionable designs and details, from the popular goddess look to the asymmetrical style which is in vogue this year.

Another fantastic place to get a simple and high quality wedding gown for a great price is Thread. They have a huge array of gowns in both white and ivory which would be lovely for many types of weddings. Some of the styles are billed specifically as wedding gowns and others are shown as bridesmaid dresses, but do come floor length and in ivory. Much like J Crew, Thread dresses are made from beautiful fabrics like silk chiffon and a fluid matte silk. They even offer a full length white-on-white seersucker gown which would be stunning for a summer wedding. The Nordstrom website is another terrific place to find stylish ivory bridesmaid dresses which are wonderful options for inexpensive wedding gowns.

When choosing an ivory “bridesmaid” dress to wear as a wedding dress, the right accessories will help to make sure that you look like a bride. A long veil, elegant bridal jewelry, and a pretty headpiece will make sure that no one mistakes you for a bridesmaid in an ivory dress. In fact, choosing distinctive and unique accessories like bridal jewelry is one of the fun things about wearing a more simple wedding gown. It allows you to express your personal style, look gorgeous, and find a fabulous wedding gown on a budget – you can’t do much better than that!

If you are like most brides, you are looking forward to picking out the perfect wedding gown. Wedding gown shopping can be really fun, but it can also be a bit stressful. To take the mystery of it, these are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about wedding gowns.

How long before my wedding should I order my gown? If you are ordering from a designer, you can expect your gown to take anywhere from three to five months to arrive at the bridal shop. Then you will also need time to have your wedding dress altered to fit. Add up the lead time and alterations, and you should plan to order your gown at least six months before your wedding. You can safely wait until about three months before your wedding to start thinking about the accessories, like veils, headpieces, and sets of bridal jewelry. The only exception is a veil which has lace trim on it to match the wedding gown; those should be ordered together to ensure a dye lot match.

I need a wedding gown in a hurry, what do I do? First of all, do not panic! The first step is to put yourself in the hands of a good consultant at a bridal shop. When you make the appointment, be upfront about your short lead time; every shop will have clearance sample gowns that they can sell from stock. Don’t waste any time trying on gowns that can not be ordered quickly enough, as you will only fall in love with something you can’t have, which will make picking a dress even harder. It is sometimes possible to get rush deliveries on designer gowns, as well, as long as you have at least a couple of months lead time. If a simple gown is your style, check out the bridal collection at a place like J Crew which can send out a dress in a hurry. You can always make simpler bridal gowns more formal with the addition of fabulous sets of jewelry and glitzy headpieces.

Why do wedding gowns cost so much? You have probably noticed that there is a huge gap in prices for wedding dresses, ranging from $99 to many thousands of dollars. When you are looking at gowns that are ordered from designers, they are usually made to order, rather than mass produced. This means that each individual gown is created by hand one at a time, many in workshops in the United States. Then there is the cost of the fabric, especially silk, as well as trims such as French lace, Swarovski crystals, seed pearls, and embroidery. All of these special details add up. They also allow you to have a gown that can be customized just for you, and one that you know will be an amazing quality, with beauty to match.

I love the look of designer gowns, but can’t afford the price; is there any way to get a good deal on a high end bridal gown? Yes and no. The best way to get a deep discount on a fine designer bridal gown is to shop at a sample sale where the sample gowns from the previous year are being sold off to make way for new arrivals. Discounts of 50% or more are common at these events, just keep in mind that you will have extra costs for dry cleaning and alterations on a sample gown. Smaller discounts, like 10%, can often be had when ordering during a designer truck show. Stay away from any discounts offered by bridal shops or online services that are not listed as authorized retailers on the designer’s website, as these can be scams.

With all of your questions answered, it is time to get shopping. Good luck finding the bridal gown of your dreams!

You have been flipping through the magazines, cruising the internet, and spent weekends trying on countless wedding gowns, all in the hopes of finding that one dream dress. And then you finally do, only to discover that it is much more expensive than you had expected. The sad truth is that brides who are in love with a designer gown can fall victim to discounters who are not able to deliver on their promises. This is how to sort through all of the options to decipher which wedding gown discounts are legitimate, and which are nothing but scams.

Rule number one: do not buy a wedding gown online from an unknown company. This goes double for an overseas company. That fly-by-night website promising Vera Wang gowns at half the going rate is almost certainly selling cheap knock-offs. The counterfeit gowns will bear only the smallest resemblance to the real thing when they arrive – if they arrive at all.

This is not to say that good prices on great gowns cannot be had online, just as can be found for accessories like bridal jewelry sets. They can, from companies like J Crew who offer simple silk gowns with the usual benefits of ordering from a catalog (and who have bridal specialists to assist you). When ordering from a legit company, you know that you will have the option to return the dress if it does not look like the picture, it turns out to be unflattering, or if you simply don’t care for it in person. This can be a great option for brides who need their gowns in a hurry, as well (Vegas, anyone?).

Buying a bridal gown from an individual through a private sale can be a great way to get a super deal or it can lead to disappointment. Every day in newspapers are ads for unworn gowns from cancelled weddings. If you can get past the bad karma attached to the dress, you may find a hidden gem. Craig’s list is another resource that might have good deals on good dresses, but it can also be a source for scams. Never buy a gown sight unseen in a private sale! This rules out eBay completely. While there are definitely plenty of designer gowns that have been discounted for a legitimate reason on the auction sites, there are also plenty of counterfeit or mis-represented wedding dresses. It simply is not worth the risk.

The one way to know for certain that you will be getting the top name gown you order is to work with a bridal shop who is an authorized retailer. A very simple way to determine this is to visit the website of the designer whose gown you covet. Going through an authorized retailer will not get you rock bottom prices, but it will get you the gown you want. In the end, it is worth it.

There are a few tricks to getting the best price on a designer gown through a reputable shop. The bridal store will not be permitted to discount under normal circumstances, however, they can offer a deal during designer trunk shows, usually on any dress from the featured brand, even if the dress is not part of the truck show selections. Sample sales are the best way to get a fine designer gown for as little as 50% of the original price. Most salons will hold sales on the floor samples at least twice a year. Plan to shop the first day for the best selection. Another idea? If there is no discount available on the gown you covet, ask the shop owner if she offers a deal on the accessories like veils, headpieces, and sets of bridal jewelry with a gown purchase. You may be able to save at least a little on those other things to help make up the difference if you go over your gown budget.

Remember that shopping for a wedding gown is like anything else: if the deals seems too good to be true, it probably is. Don’t allow your emotions to overwhelm your head, and you will be able to suss out the best deal on a genuine designer gown without falling prey to a wedding dress scam.

Your wedding gown is the most important purchase of your life; so, you must pay special attention when you go shopping for it. Here are some tips to help you purchase the most suitable wedding gown for you:

1. Stick to Your Budget
You will find that the markets are flooded with a variety of wedding gowns that can be purchased for a variety of prices. Before you purchase any of them, determine how much you can afford to spend on a wedding gown. Don’t step beyond your budget limits because, if you do so, you might feel the financial strain later.

2. Choose a Style
Determine the design of your gown. Browse the Internet to get a variety of wedding gown designs. While selecting an appropriate design, keep in mind the location and time of the ceremony. Ensure that your gown suits not only the ceremony and the locality, but also the rest of your wedding plans.

3. Shop Early
Don’t put off shopping for your wedding gown till the last minute. As soon as you have set the date for your wedding, start looking for an appropriate wedding gown. Research various bridal salons well before you decide to purchase their services.

4. Talk to Your Gown Designer
Visit the bridal salon whose services you have decided to purchase and talk to the designer in advance. Discuss your wedding dress with her so that she will become aware of what you are searching for. Being a professional, she can give you a number of useful tips to purchase the best wedding gown.

5. Don’t Take Your Measurements Yourself
Let professional designers take your measurements for you. Don’t give them a set of measurements you have taken yourself. You could make major mistakes. A professional can take the exact measurement and ensure that your bridal attire will fit you prefectly.

6. Study Swatches
Studying a variety of swatches will give you some idea about the color and texture of material that is to comprise your wedding gown. If you study a variety of swatches, you will be able to decide the best material for your gown.

7. Study the Fit of Your Gown
Consider how the gown will make you look from behind. This is because your guests have to look at your back for a long time during the ceremony. While selecting a wedding gown design, remember that the back of the dress should look as alluring as the front.

8. Shop with a Friend
Your friend will be able to give you her valuable opinion regarding the design you have chosen. With your friend’s help, you can decide alterations to your design and also make up your mind about what your dress will look like from various angles.

9. Ensure that Your Gown is Comfortable
You will have to wear your gown for nearly eight hours; so ensure that the gown is comfortable and that you are at ease in it. Try it on before you make a purchase; try a variety of movements such as walking, bending, stretching, sitting, dancing, and standing in it to find out your level of comfort when you are wearing it.

10. Paying for Your Gown
On ordering your wedding gown, you will have to pay a fifty percent advance on it.

If you have paid an advance, request a receipt, which comprises a record of the advance paid, the description of the gown, and the date of delivery.

Ordering your gown at the same shop where you found the design is the best option for you. Alternatively, you can take the services of bridal store. They will take care of everything for you till you are completely satisfied.

Avoid doing the following:
Don’t get your wedding gown shipped to you. If anything has gone wrong with you, there is little that you can do. The amount that you spend on alterations might far exceed the discount you were offered when you were shipped the gown.

Beware of anybody who suggests that you should do the “legwork.” In such a case, it is better to find another place to purchase a wedding gown.

Never pay for your gown in full before it is completely done and delivered to you.

Enjoy shopping for your wedding gown; it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Let the professional gown designers and fitters give you royal treatment. The thrill and excitement of purchasing a gown is second only to the actual experience of your wedding.

There are many dissimilar types of weddings conducted all over the United States today. Some individuals decide to have a theme wedding, such as a tropical beach party or renaissance themed wedding. Other couples choose to have a more comfortable, informal wedding where everyone is expected to just kick back and have a good time. In favor of couples that choose to have a more traditional wedding, frequently the style of the wedding is based off of the Victorian era, with the brides wearing Victorian wedding gowns and the rest of the wedding party in very formal wedding attire.

Victorian wedding gowns are enormously popular with brides having a traditional wedding because of the classic styling of the gowns. For many individuals, when they image a wedding dress in their mind, they picture Victorian wedding gowns because that is the style most closely linked with a traditional wedding. Naturally, these types of gowns have a fitted bodice and a long, flowing skirt of shimmering white material. Several of the gowns have beading or intricate designs on the bodice while others have designs located just above and around the hemline to enhance the beauty of the skirt of the dress. The sleeves of Victorian wedding gowns are able to be any length, from full to half to a sleeveless or strapless bodice. The neck of the gown is classically high, with a lace collar fastening around the throat of the bride.

The Cinderella Wedding Gowns

The definitive fantasy wedding gowns for many brides are the Cinderella ball gowns because these dresses are the ultimate in womanliness and elaborate accents. Remember how Cinderella’s waistline looked so petite against her voluminous frothy skirt that could have housed her carriage? Her tiny cap sleeves set off arms so prettily and her tiara in her up swept hair was perfect.

That is the fairy tale look that a lot of brides are trying to remake on their special day. This fantasy look can be made impressive with the use of different accessories such as gloves, diamond earrings, diamond pendants, jewel encrusted tiaras, huge veils and sparkling hair accessories. The fantasy look is prosperous and elaborate and is meant to look as though it took hours to be prepared.

Different Styling Details

The Beauty Of Renaissance Wedding Gowns

A wedding is extremely special for all that are involved. For the bride, it is one of the happiest times of her life. For a wedding, all must be perfect, from the cake to the vows to the wedding dress. Some brides decide renaissance wedding gowns to wear on their special day, owing to the beauty of the dresses and the classic styling of the gown. Renaissance wedding gowns can be difficult to find, but with a little time and willpower any bride should be able to find the gown of her dreams.

Renaissance wedding gowns have a distinguishing look that sets them apart from other styles of wedding dresses. Many look like they have come straight from the courts of King Arthur or were worn by Juliette while Romeo wooed her. Even though there are many different styles of renaissance wedding gowns, a few of the elements normally stay the same. These gowns are usually white or white combined with cream colored elements and are comprised of an under-dress with an over-drape. The sleeves of the gowns are flowing, flattering tighter as they get closer to the wrist. The bodice is typically tight and beaded in intricate designs. Wearing one of these gowns can make any bride feel resembling a princess.

The Medieval Wedding Gowns

One of the most in style types of weddings today is the theme wedding, where the whole wedding revolves around a central theme. A number of individuals choose to have a traditional Victorian themed wedding while others prefer more exotic themes such as Hawaiian themed weddings. One wedding theme that is increasing in popularity is the medieval themed wedding, where the brides wear medieval wedding gowns with all of the bridal party participants wear appeal from the medieval period. Medieval themed weddings can be a lot of fun, other than pulling off the theme and finding the proper items to make it work can be not easy.

Medieval wedding gowns can be hard to find as many retailers either have a very limited selection of the gowns or do not carry the gowns at all. There are some online retailers that have a wider collection of medieval wedding gowns and other wedding attire available for purchase. The biggest disadvantage to these vendors is that the dress must be ordered online ahead of the bride has had a chance to try on the dress and if the dress does not fit appropriately or does not look attractive on the bride, then the dress can be a hassle to return.

Your wedding day is theoretical to be the happiest day of your life, and so anything it takes to make you happy you should do, no questions asked, and finding that perfect dress is one of the most important things of all.

A long formal dress is suitable for a church wedding of a civil ceremony although many brides do prefer wearing a smart dress or tailored suit for the Registry office.
Some religions also frown on sleeveless dresses or low cut outfits and this will need to be taken into account too.
No matter which style you pick, remember that the back view is as important as the front, you will have you back to everyone during the ceremony.
Choose fabric that is resistant to crushing and creasing
Detachable trains that can be removed or hooked up are also wise.
Dress ideas and colours will need to be discussed with the groom without revealing all the details so that the colours and styles of the wedding party can be coordinated.

Look in the mirror

Be realistic and dont try and aim for what Hollywood starlets look like on their wedding days, most of us dont have personal trainer and chefs to look after us and help keep us in shape.
Dont set your goal posts too close to the moon, you will only be disappointed and feel like a failure when your big day is meant to be a celebration of your love for one another.
Concentrate on the real you!
Think about what you normally wear, what colours suit you and which styles flatter you figure and most important, which outfits make you feel on top of the world, What type of ceremony and theme are you looking to create- traditional or relaxed, formal or informal.

Colours

White dresses are not obligatory these days, if you dont feel white is your colour or will complement you then dont wear it
Wedding gowns are becoming increasingly popular in cream, pale gold, pale blue, pale pink and red. There is also a trend these days to go for darker colours like burgundy or shades of green which is a beautiful idea for a Christmas wedding.

You will feel better in a dress that flatters your complexion or one of your favourites instead of going with white because it seems to be the norm. If wearing a bright coloured dress the details should be kept to a minimum.

The Right Style for your Shape

Choosing a style that flatters your shape can make a huge difference to how you look and also give you a huge confidence booster
Trying on dresses that either dont suit your body or the ceremony is not only a waste of time but can also depress you and you might find that you give in a buy the wrong dress anyway. A sure fire way to put a dampener on your big day.

Tall and Thin

Choose a ball gown with a strapless, fitter bodice

Bony shoulders or collar bones can will suit dresses with a higher neckline that are long and fitted

If you feel you are too thin for this style consider that you can set of your height and leanness with some delicate detailed embroidery or beading.

Short with a fuller, feminine Figure

Try an empire line dress which has a seam under the bust line and in the right fabric, the dress will flow instead of cling

A Knee length dress will also look good, the longer dress will add height and give you a taller silhouette

Sleeves should also be long but not too tight if considered.

Thick Waist

Conceal a wide waist with a boned corset or wear a decorative jacket that falls just below the waistline

Pregnant Brides

Maternity bridal wear is a fairly specialist item to fin and not offered at standard bridal shops. Having a bump does not equal frump. Pregnant brides can still have the dress of the dreams.
If you are having a baby or have just had a baby then take into account the fact that you are going to have long day, so go for comfort when choosing what to wear.
Dont try to squeeze in a corset style dress in the size you used to be.
Your dress will have to allow for your changing shape and you will need to find a reliable dress maker for last minute alterations.
If you want to disguise the pregnancy go for a dress that is one size up and getting the bust altered. A big bouquet will also disguise the tummy area.
You do not need to sacrifice style to be comfortable, tight waists and figure hugging dresses with tightly laced bodices are not worth sparing a thought for as they will only torment you on your special day.
Focus on showing off your new curves with a focus on the shoulders or bust
Styles that are perfect for the pregnant bride are Empire lines, princess lines or A line dresses. These styles flare from under the bust, the empire line has a straighter skirt. A Chiffon overlay can be added to soften the lines of your dress or opt for a medieval style dress with long flowing sleeves.

Some guidelines when deciding on a dress:

Try on as many different styles as you like and view them from as many different angles as possible, take some shoes along that will be similar in height to the ones you may wear. To get the full effect have the shop fit you out in a veil with the dress as you wont want to take your wedding dress with you when you go veil shopping

Take your time to make a decision and dont feel pressured by pushy sales people.

Ritual symbolism abounds in everything we do; this is particularly the case when an individual commits their love and devotion to another and offers a promise of marriage. The custom of offering and exchanging engagement rings and wedding bands is a time honored tradition rich in symbolism and meaning that has been carried on for centuries.

As time has changed so have consumer traditions and buying patterns. The rich tradition of exchanging vows as a symbol of love and devotion is still a traditional time honored ritual practiced in many cultures. Certain aspects of engagement and marriage have changed with time however. Whereas in times of old a couple might take several outings together in search of the perfect engagement rings or wedding bands, in modern times more and more couples are buying engagement rings, wedding rings and wedding bands online.

Thanks to the internet and the resulting access to a global marketplace, couples are realizing they have more options available to them all from the comforts of their living room. Some couples are even going to the extreme, not only buying engagement rings, wedding rings and wedding bands online, but also purchasing wedding gowns, flowers and even participating in virtual marriages.

How have these changes come about? What can today’s modern couple expect when planning a walk down the aisle?

The Engagement Ring

The practice of a groom offering his bride to be an engagement ring as a promise of love and affection began nearly 2 centuries ago in the United States; many associate the giving of engagement rings with a need to express implied commitment and understanding forever. The term “A Diamond is Forever” was in fact used as a means of reinforcing the notion that an engagement ring is a commitment from one fianc to another to live a life together in marital harmony forever. The phrase is also a popular advertising catch phrase that reinforces the notion that love and devotion are part of everyday symbolisms that require an outlet for expression.

The use of engagement rings as a token of love and affection is a norm that instilled in the hearts and minds of most people, in part due to heavy marketing and advertising from diamond ring and other jewelry manufacturers, and in part based on the needs of mankind to project symbolism into everyday living.

Wedding Rings

Once a couple has decided to walk down the aisle together, the next step is often purchasing wedding rings together. Because there are so many different kinds to choose from, it helps to know what distinguishes one wedding band from another. There are several tips that you can follow to ensure that you purchase wedding bands that suit your individual preferences and budget.

First and foremost consumers should keep in mind that it certainly pays to do their homework. The best advice for wedding ring shoppers is patience. Couples should take the time to shop around and look at several different wedding bands, and have in mind an idea of what exactly they are looking for. Far too often customers compromise because they feel they can’t find exactly what they are looking for; chances are you can find what you are looking for at a reasonable price, if you give yourself plenty of time to research wedding rings thoroughly before purchasing.

An article in Today’s Summer Bride in Summer of 1989 suggested that consumers be patient and shop wisely, but also have faith that they will find what they are looking for. The article was referring to purchase of a wedding gown, but buying wedding rings follows the same logic. You probably didn’t bump into your partner overnight, and likewise you should expect it to take some time to find the perfect wedding rings as symbols of your love and devotion to one another.

Marriage represents a commitment and shared love between two people. Wedding ceremonies are often shrouded in symbolism, among the most significant of which is the exchange of wedding rings between husband and wife.

Buying Engagement Rings, Wedding Rings and Wedding Bands Online

Society is ever changing, and with the advent of technology and access to a global marketplace, more and more consumers are buying engagement rings, wedding rings and wedding bands online rather than shopping for these ritual symbols of devotion in a traditional store. Buying online affords consumers the luxury of perusing the widest selection of rings available from the convenience of their home.

Some people have infused the process of buying engagement rings, wedding rings and wedding bands online with romanticism. New rituals and traditions are being built in the face of modern technology. In fact, some couples are planning entire wedding ceremonies through their computers. A virtual ceremony can be broadcast to friends and family members the world over!

What advice can we offer the couple interested in shopping for wedding accessories online? Here are some suggestions for a successful venture:

  • Keep an open mind. Know what type of engagement rings (diamond, gemstone, bands) or wedding rings you are looking for, but consider looking at many different varieties. You may change your mind about what type of ring best symbolizes your relationship and love.
  • Make shopping online romantic! Place some candles around the computer, turn on your song and have some wine! Buying engagement rings, wedding rings and wedding bands online can be just as fun and exciting as buying them in person… and even more fun when you create a loving and warm atmosphere.
  • Be prepared to spend a fair amount of time perusing different styles and makes. There are an incredible variety of engagement rings and wedding bands available: titanium, platinum, white gold, traditional gold, silver, gemstone, diamond… the list goes on and on. Once you have reviewed a fair number of styles be sure to compile a list of your favorites to narrow down your search.
  • Know your size! Nothing is more obnoxious than having to have a ring re-sized before you wear it. There are several websites that offer jewelry sizing online. Typically women wear between a size 5-9 and men between sizes 8-12. The average for men: a 10; the average for women: a 7.

A Symbol of Your Love and Devotion

Ritual symbols such as the exchange of engagement rings and wedding rings are time honored traditions that will likely continue through the next two centuries. Though the manner in which people shop and commit themselves to one another is changing, the time honored tradition of exchanging vows and bands as a symbol of love and devotion will not likely change in the near future.

Take advantage of modern technology, and consider buying engagement rings, wedding rings and wedding bands online. You’d be surprised the variety available, and pleasantly surprised by how exciting it can be shopping from the comforts of your living room, office, or bedroom…
