What are other alternatives to an engagement ring?

My boyfriend and I want to get married and instead of an engagement ring I was thinking of wearing a band. What are some modern alternatives to a diamond engagement ring or bridal set. I still want some kind of sparkle though.

I’m the same way, do not be afraid to shop around and let the ppl know you just want to get an idea of what you might like, don’t feel like you have to walk out buying something. I hated all the bridal sets we saw just cuz I’m so afraid of banging that diamond around. I don’t like how they stick out and I’m always working w/ my hands. No point in spending so much on a ring I’m too scared to wear. Years ago he’d given me a promise ring and the more rings we saw the more I didn’t want to give it up so the lady suggested just getting a 1 carat version of the ring I’d already had. It just made sense and it definitely has lots of sparkle yet small enough I can wear it anywhere and not feel anxious. Here’s a link to what I had before. I had the 1/8th carat journey ring then when we got married he gave me the 1 carat gold ring at the bottom. http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResultsView?langId=-1&storeId=10101&catalogId=10001&N=0&Ne=1&Ntk=Products&Ntt=1+carat+journey+ring
(He didn’t pay anywhere near that much thank goodness!) I’ve had several compliments which put me at ease cuz the whole time I was worried ppl would think why don’t I have a ‘real’ wedding ring. As long as you love it then that’s all that matters. And to be honest ANY ring you choose will work. The one I had before was much smaller and everyone would always ask to see my ‘wedding band’.
    Happy shopping!

Well, why not go for another type of stone? Some people like amethysts, moonstones or other types of gems. You could also get a ring engraved with a saying or with the year/day that he proposed.

I personally like the claddaugh ring- it’s been around for a while, is gorgeous, has some bling & while it is popular, you don’t see a huge amount of them out there. I also like the puzzle rings as well- you really don’t see those that much at all!

A ruby heart with tiny diamonds around it . Or a eternity band with your birthstone

As someone else stated, go with your birthstone. I bought my fiance a ring that has 4 sapphire accents with the main stone being a large diamond and she gets compliments all the time. The funny thing is that most of the compliments are for the ring design and not on the huge rock I spent so much money on. Anyway, I personally think getting a ring with all diamonds is boring and they’re definitely overpriced.

A friend of mine requested, and received, and engagement cat. One of those hypoallergenic cats bred with the mutation of lacking the enzyme in their saliva that some people are allergic to. Her fiance is allergic, she loves cats, so she requested the hypoallergenic cat. =)

However, if you want jewelry, you might look into an eternity band. You can wear more than one together, if you like the look. A friend of mine switches between her "beater band" which is a plain silver band, her eternity band, and her eternity band with her engagement ring.
